Dear Senior Students & Parents of the Class of 2019!

As the academic year continues on, I am here to present you all with more information regarding our planned Senior Committee events, including prom and graduation.

Firstly, we would like to speak on updates for the graduation ceremony. As a reminder, we have finalized the date of May 27th, 2019 for the graduation event it will be held at Jones Hall for the Performing Arts but we are currently in the process of signing the contract for it. As for the timing of the event, we intend on opening the doors to the venue at 6:00 PM, with the event officially beginning at 6:30 PM. According to what the venue requires of us, all seating will be ticketed, and guests will be required to sit in their ticketed seats. While we are still looking into the capacity and the way we\’d like the seating to be set up, families can expect to have around ten tickets per family. We will not give more than this number, and if families are interested in getting more tickets, they may speak to other families on whether they will use all of their tickets or not.

Attention: We really need your help!!! We are still looking for keynote and motivational speakers for the graduation venue. The only requirement to speak at graduation is to have graduated from high school and college. If any parents know someone who might be willing to speak at graduation, please reach out to me by e-mail at aciftci@harmonytx.org.

In regards to the updates for the prom venue, we have begun to work our way into signing the contract for our expected venue, the Royal Sonesta Galleria Hotel. The date of the event is May 4th, 2019. We intend on starting the event at 7:00 PM, but details regarding the finalization of the time will be sent out as they come forth. The theme for the prom is “A Night at the Met Gala”, so be ready for the glam! As a reminder, prom tickets have an extended payment date, and the date will be revealed to the students in the upcoming weeks.

Next, we would like to inform you all on the updates for Senior Week. The event will take place from April 8th to April 12th, and our plan of trips is to Kemah Boardwalk, Dave and Buster’s, the Houston Museum District, the Houston Zoo, and Six Flags Over Fiesta Texas. Payments for Senior Week gave been extended until late March, for which the final payment date will be revealed in the upcoming weeks. It has not been decided whether students will be allowed to purchase trips day by day. Any additional updates about the trip will be shared as they arise.

For all miscellaneous information, senior shirts are still able to be purchased! Please reach out to me if you are interested in purchasing one. However, keep in mind that if you are interested in purchasing a small or medium size, you must fill out an order form, because we have to have more smalls and mediums printed. There’s no deadline for ordering another shirt, but please keep in mind that the earlier you order the shirt, the better! As an additional financial reminder, please be sure that you are communicating with your students regarding their senior dues! The second installment was due February 13th, and we have only received a handful of receipts. If you and your student are having trouble paying for the senior dues package, please be sure to communicate said the issue with me, Mr. Ciftci, so that we can work out an arrangement for your student. Remember, I am only able to recognize your issue if an e-mail is sent to me so that I can have a record of your concerns.

Lastly, it has come to our attention that some of your students have not been reading the Remind messages in which we share all of our information to the students. In order to avoid this lack of communication between us, your students, and you, the parents, we are strongly encouraging you all to join the Senior Committee Class of 2019’s Remind group. In order to do so, just text the cell phone number 81010, with the message “@hseniorc.” By doing this, you will be able to receive all of the messages that are sent out to the students.

We are having a Chick-fil-A fundraiser this upcoming Tuesday, February 19th, 2019. Our fundraiser will be hosted at the Chick-fil-A on 6895 S Texas 6, Houston, TX 77083.

Make sure that when you make your purchase that you mention you’re there for the Harmony Senior Committee fundraiser!

Show up and show out to support our senior class!

Mock testing will take place on February 19-28.  HSI-Sugar Land will be closed to visitors on these days.  Students need to arrive on time to school and are expected to wear their uniforms in accordance with the school dress code policy.   Additionally, students need to bring #2 pencils and erasers.  We encourage students to be well rested and to eat a healthy breakfast on testing days.  Please review the attached testing schedule.

Texas Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (T-STEM) Academies are rigorous secondary schools focusing on improving instruction and academic performance in science and mathematics-related subjects and increasing the number of students who study and enter STEM careers. T-STEM Academies are demonstration schools and learning labs that develop innovative methods to improve science and mathematics instructions.

Prior to the 2011-2012 school year, the only path to become a T-STEM Academy was a T-STEM Academy grant through the Texas Education Agency or one of the private partners in the Texas High School Project.

Beginning with the 2011-2012 school year, a second pathway was created. Campuses, using local or other sources of funding, that are implementing the T-STEM Design Blueprint with fidelity may apply to be designated as a T-STEM Academy. T-STEM campuses are designated based on a rigorous designation process. Once a campus is designated, professional development and technical assistance are provided to designated T-STEM academies to serve as demonstration schools and learning labs to showcase innovative instruction methods which integrate technology and engineering into science and mathematics instruction. Designated T-STEM campuses serve students in grades 6-12 or 9-12.
