Dear Parents and Guardians:

SUBJECT: PSAT

On October 12, HSI-Sugar Land will offer the PSAT to students in grades 9-11. The 9th graders will be taking the PSAT8/9, and the 10th and 11th graders will be taking the PSAT/NMSQT. The scores from these assessments will be used to
help determine class placement for next year and help students track how they are doing with regard to college readiness.
Additionally, for 11th graders, their scores on the test will determine their eligibility for scholarships, including the National Merit Scholarship.

Links for the student guides are below in the chart. Student guides contain detailed information about the tests for parents
and students as well as sample questions. Additional practice tests are available online at College Board
(www.collegeboard.org/psatpractice) and online at Khan Academy (https://www.khanacademy.org/).

On testing day, students need to arrive on time to school and are expected to wear their uniforms in accordance with the
dress code policy. Students are encouraged to get a restful night’s sleep before the test and to eat a healthy breakfast on
the day of testing. Additionally, please remind your child not to bring his/her cell phone or other electronic devices into
the testing room. As per College Board rules, students caught with these prohibited devices will have their scores
canceled.

Lastly, on test day, HSI-Sugar Land will be closed to all visitors and parents, including lunch drop-offs, until testing is
complete. The estimated end time for testing is 1:30 pm.

Thank you for your continued support.

Harmony School of Innovation – Sugar Land

Dear Mustang Families,
We appreciate your patience with drop-off and dismissal in our school grounds, however we would like to address a pressing issue.
Our student’s safety is our utmost priority. It has come to our attention that many students are walking across the streets to be dropped off/picked up. It is understandable that the dismissal route may be overwhelming at the moment however we are pleading that you follow the given route. We want each student to reach school and back home safely. Currently, we see students walking across Old Richmond Rd. and Belknap Rd., cars making U-turns and drivers parking or dropping off/picking up in the nearby neighborhoods. All these practices; though may save a couple minutes at most, are putting lives at risk.
We have started our after school clubs, and are currently working with our construction team on student parking spaces, which should relieve some traffic for everyone. Police officers are posted on Belknap Road to help direct our traffic to and from our campus to the main streets.
As observed, our current dismissal plan is running rhythmically.
Again, we are grateful for all that you do for your students and will appreciate your support with enforcing the dismissal plan by dropping and picking your student on school grounds.
Sincerely,
HSI- Sugar Land Administration

Dear Senior Parent(s) or Guardian(s),

Senior year of high school is an exciting, busy time for both you and your student. We hope, in the months ahead, that you are able to make wonderful memories of this special time before your student  heads off to college.

This may also be a time when you begin to have serious conversations about college costs, or how to  secure financial aid for college. Although it may seem stressful or confusing, having these conversations and taking action early can simplify the process for your family.

For many students, financial aid makes college after high school a realistic goal. And when higher education feels attainable, students are more likely to pursue it. In 2019, House Bill 3 introduced a new graduation requirement for Texas students. Beginning with the 2021–22 school year, all students need to submit a financial aid application, taking one of the following actions to graduate:

  • Complete and submit the free application for federal student aid (FAFSA)
  • Complete and submit the Texas application for state financial aid (TASFA)
  • Submit a signed opt-out form

With that in mind, we encourage you to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid

(FAFSA) as soon as you are able after the October 1st release date. The FAFSA is used to determine eligibility for a variety of aid: federal, state, and school-based, as well as grants and

Scholarships.

The sooner the FAFSA is completed, the sooner you and your student can make informed college choices…and get back to enjoying all the memory-making moments still in store.

Beginning October 1, visit www.studentaid.gov to begin the FAFSA application and submit it for the following academic year (2023-2024).

Also, FAFSA help is available! Check with your high school counselor, schedule an appointment  with the UAspire financial aid advisor, and attend one of our FAFSA workshops for more support and information.

Announcement:

HSI Sugar Land will also be hosting a 12th Grade College Application/FAFSA-TASFA Night on our campus on September 22nd from 5:30 pm to 7 pm for Senior Parents/Seniors. We look forward to seeing you there!

You can find the flyer for this event here: 12th Grade College Application FAFSA/TASFA Academic Night

Suicide is a problem that touches the lives of many Americans. Many of us may know someone, such as a friend, family member, or coworker who has attempted or died by suicide. Over the past two decades, suicide rates have steadily risen in the United States. Suicide is currently ranked 10th for cause of death among all ages. It is important for you to know that suicide is preventable. With commitment and engagement in our communities, workplaces, and homes, together we can help reduce the number of suicides. Resources are available to assist in noticing the warning signs, risk factors, treatment, and therapies.

Para obtener más información sobre el proceso de selección e identificación, los padres pueden comunicarse con el entrenador / maestro de GT de la escuela.

As we embark on a new school year unlike any other, we at Harmony recognize the increase in challenges that many of our students and families are facing. As such, if there is any need, for example, a need for food, clothing, mental health support, or if your family is going through a difficult time and it is affecting your child, please let us know.

This year, we are offering parents the means to communicate any non-academics needs to the school through a Student Assistance Form, better known as a SAF. By submitting a SAF, you will be alerting the campus administrators to your child’s needs and will give us an opportunity to provide resources, support, or some form of assistance.

We look forward to a new school year in the hope that by working together we can provide a safe, caring, and collaborative atmosphere for our students where all their needs are met.
