Parents Right to know

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was passed by the U.S. Congress and signed into law on December 10, 2015.  The ESSA replaces the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and is the latest reauthorization of theElementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).  Under ESSA, all schools receiving Title I funds must inform parents of their right to ask schools about the professional qualifications of their child’s teachers.  HSI-Sugar Land encourages parents to communicate with their child’s teacher(s) on a regular basis.  Additionally, parents are welcome to contact their child’s Dean of Academics, Mrs. Qutob for middle School and Mrs. Ahmad for high school, or the Dean of Students, Mr. Duff.  If you would like to view a teacher’s license, please access this link: https://secure.sbec.state.tx.us/sbeconline/virtcert.asp.  For more information on ESSA and the role of parents, please visit the United States Department of Education’s website at https://www2.ed.gov/policy/elsec/leg/essa/index.html.

TEA Distinction Designation

HSI-Sugar Land is proud to celebrate our outstanding accountability ratings as determined by the Texas Education Agency.  Our exemplary 2017 STAAR scores have earned us all seven possible distinctions; our campus is one of only 400 total schools statewide to have merited such an achievement.  According to Commissioner of Education Mike Morath, “Earning one or more campus distinctions is noteworthy and should be a source of pride in a community.  Earning all possible distinctions is a significant accomplishment and should signal to parents that there is extraordinary work taking place on campus.”  HSI-Sugar Land feels deep pride and gratitude for the students, teachers, staff, and parents who contribute to the extraordinary work we do.

Please see the attached documents to view HIS-Sugar Land’s accountability summary reports from 2017 and years prior.

Spinal Testing for School

Our campus will be conducting a state mandatory  spinal screening for all 9th grade students. This procedure for screening is simple. The nurse’s aid is certified and has years of experience in this procedure. All boys and girls will be examined individually. If your student has received this examination within this year please submit the report to the nurse’s aid to avoid a 2nd screening. If, for religious reasons you wish your student not to be screened, you must submit a signed Notarized exemption form and turn it in by November 13, 2017. Student or parents may pick up an exemption form from the front office.
