2022-2023 Short Day Letter/2022-2023 Carta de Dia Corto

Dear Mustang Parents/Guardians,

We are very excited about the start of the new 2022-2023 school year. As we welcome back our returning students and look forward to getting to know our new students, we want to highlight a change to their schedule.

Beginning for the 2022-2023 school year, the short day will be moved from Fridays to Wednesdays.

Classes will begin each Wednesday at normal time, which is 8:00 am., but will end early at 2:30 pm.

Please note this significant change to the calendar and make appropriate childcare arrangements for your student to accommodate the new short day time when school resumes.

You may access the school district’s calendar by visiting your school or the District’s website.

Student schedules are ready to review in Skyward.

Changes requested after the Course Plan has been submitted will be made ONLY for the following reasons per counselor approval.

  • A Senior needs to make up deficient graduation credits
  • A student received a failing grade and needs to repeat the class for high school graduation requirements or to meet college eligibility requirements
  • A student is in the incorrect course level
  • A course requested will not be offered due to budgetary restraints, low-class size
  • A student completed a course credit at summer school
  • Medical/health issues require adjustment in the schedule
  • There is a missing or blank course in the schedule.

Please check your schedule and if there is any issue listed above, see your counselor by next week on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at 4:00 pm. (The Last Day of the School)

If you did not have a chance to complete your course selection meeting with your counselor, please reach him/her out as soon as you can so that your schedule will be ready before school starts.

REMINDER! GRADUATION Clearance Form

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: FRIDAY, MAY 27, 2022 AT 4:00 PM.

Dear Mustang Senior Students & Parents/Guardians

In order for students at HSI-Sugar Land to receive their high school diploma and official high school transcript, HSI-Sugar Land Graduation Clearance Form must be submitted through the online form submission.

Please make sure you complete the requirements listed below:

  • Complete state required high school credits and community service hours
  • Pass on Texas State Assessments (STAAR)
  • Submit your 4-year college admission letter thorough SchoolLinks
  • Complete your College Transition/Exit survey in SchoolLinks
  • Confirm your FAFSA/TASFA Application status in SchoolLinks
  • Make sure you do not have any hold in your HSI-Sugar Land account
  • Make sure you turn in all the electronic devices, textbooks, calculators, or school materials to our IT department or in charge person at the campus. (Please contact Mr. Avdic at selmir.avdic@harmonytx.org for further information).

IMPORTANT NOTE:

  • Students who are failed to complete any requirements stated above and submit the clearance form by Friday, May 27, 2022, at 4:00 pm. will NOT be able to receive a high school diploma and OFFICIAL high school transcript.

If you think you have a valid reason for being unable to submit your 4-year college admission form, then please submit the appeal form provided below so that our graduation committee will review it.

PTO Request HSI SL

Dear parents,

As you all know the seniors’ graduation is approaching soon and it is a tradition that PTO provides lunch for all seniors (154 students) on graduation day. However, it is not possible without parental support.

Last year we got pizza, drinks, and snacks (chips, cookies) and would like to do the same this year. If you can please let us know what you can contribute. A monetary donation is greatly appreciated in any amount. You can send it via Zelle to the PTO account at hsisugarlandpto@gmail.com.

If you are a restaurant owner and willing to provide lunch for 154 students please contact us. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law’s HSL-PTO is exempt from federal taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code as a member of Parent Booster USA’s (PBUSA) group exemption #5271. In accordance with IRS rules and regulations, donors are advised to verify an organization’s 501(c) (3) tax-exempt status. Your family may be eligible for a financial benefit to assist with food purchases for your student.

School Cafe applications now open to establish meal eligibility for PEBT eligible students!

PEBT benefits will soon be available for families whose children have experienced COVID related absences and who qualify for free or reduced price benefits through the National School Lunch Program.  

 

Does my child qualify?

 

Both criteria must be met to qualify for PEBT benefits.

 

#1 A COVID related absence from August – December due to a positive test or exposure that has been verified by the campus.  COVID absences from January  – May will receive benefits in July.

  

#2 Eligible for free or reduced price meals through the National School Lunch Program.  To determine your child’s eligibility, submit an application through www.schoolcafe.com.  Paper applications may also be requested from the school office.  Students attending a CEP campus or who are directly certified automatically meet the eligibility requirement.      

  

The deadline to complete a meal eligibility application is April 6th.

This is Senior Committee Board, and we are proud to announce that our Class of 2022 graduation will commence on Friday, May 27th, 2022. The event will be hosted at Houston Baptist University, and will take place between 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM. Parents are encouraged to get to the venue earlier than 5:30 PM, to avoid the traffic.

Furthermore, we would like to introduce you to our concept for tickets. To confirm the number of guests coming from your family, we would like to fill out the RSVP form attached below. Parents must fill out this form so we can provide you with the accurate number of tickets. We are giving every student 7 complimentary tickets.

If you are aware that you will need handicapped seating, please indicate this on the Graduation ticket Request Form. Parents must have completed this Form by Monday, April 25th, 2022 at 11:59PM. Priority will be given to students in the order that they respond to the request Form.IMPORTANT!!!

Cap and Gown Orders will be completed from Cap and Gown Order Form.

Please submit your order by Friday, April 8th, 2022!

GYOT Program is Accepting Applications Now from SENIORS!!!

Dear Mustang Seniors and Parents/Guardians,

Harmony Public School’s Grow Your Own Teacher Program (GYOT) is an innovative fellowship developed to prepare HPS’s future educators and leaders. GYOT program provides a competitive financial opportunity – up to $20,000 for four years – for current HPS students and/or HPS graduates to pursue a bachelor’s degree that leads to teacher certification.

 

Harmony Grow Your Own Teacher (GYOT) program is accepting applications now. The application deadline is April 1st, 2022 and the class of 2022 is also eligible.

 

GYOT Eligibility for HPS Graduates

  1. Completion of junior and senior year of high school with official HPS graduation and award of a diploma.
  2. HPS graduate must pursue any degree major that leads to teacher certification.
  3. Cumulative college GPA of 2.5 or higher at the time the individual applies for the Program and throughout a selected Participant’s participation in the Program.
  4. The applicant must be eligible to work in the United States.

Career Day Event (9th and 10th) Friday, March 11th at 8:00 am-11:00 am

Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,

We will be having our Virtual Nepris Career Day next Friday, March 11th at 8:00 -11:00 am in the cafeteria for 9th-10th grade students. Attached is the flyer for this event. Nepris connects educators and students with a network of industry professionals, virtually, bringing real-world relevance and career exposure from the different fields.

For each session, (8:00-9:00 am, 9:00-10:00 am, and 10:00-11:00 am) there will be different virtual live career presentations that you will choose from to participate in depending on which careers interest you.

Before this event, please make sure you

  • Activate the account that has been created for you,
  • Register for the event by choosing the 3 virtual career presentations that you would like to participate in,
  • Report to the cafeteria after attendance is taken,
  • Have your Chromebook, and
  • Start attending the session by logging in to your account

HCAL Boys’ BKB City Playoffs

Harmony Public Schools enrollment and lottery process

Each school year, thousands of families submit their application to become a part of Harmony Public Schools.

Here’s how we select applicants for enrollment each year to make sure each applicant has an equal opportunity to become our next high-achieving Harmony scholar.

STEP 1

Each January, we ask current families to let us know if they’ll be coming back to Harmony next year. This is called “Re-Enrollment.”

STEP 2

Based on the number of students returning next year and the number of classes in each grade level, we determine how many open spots we will have for new students.

STEP 3

Meanwhile, new families are submitting their applications during our annual Open Enrollment season, which runs from November 1 through February 10 each year.

STEP 4

After February 10, if the number of new applicants is greater than the number of available spots we have, Harmony holds a “blind lottery” to make sure all applicants have a fair opportunity to be seated.

STEP 5

Families of students selected for enrollment are notified. Those not selected are put on a “waitlist” and contacted as soon as a spot opens up.

Here are some answers to our applicants’ most frequently asked questions.

#1 – IS THERE ALWAYS A LOTTERY?

Not always, but often.

Whether a lottery is needed is determined by the number of spots available at each grade level and the number of eligible applicants interested in them.

#2 – I WAS SELECTED FOR ENROLLMENT –
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO NEXT?

Most importantly, we need you to officially accept the spot (a link will be provided on the acceptance letter). Then, between now and next fall, you’ll need to officially register your child and provide a few documents verifying their identity and home address.

After that, we’ll see you on the first day of school!

(Note: If you were accepted by more than one campus, please register at your preferred campus and decline the invitation of any others. This will allow us to offer those spots to another prospective Harmony family.)

#3 – I WAS PLACED ON A WAITLIST –
IS THERE ANY CHANCE I WILL GET TO ATTEND?

Absolutely – so don’t give up hope! Students initially placed on a waitlist are given the opportunity to enroll all the time at Harmony, often for one of the following reasons:

  • A student who was initially selected in the lottery didn’t completion registration by the deadline.
  • A student who was initially selected in the lottery moved away.
  • A student was selected by two schools in the lottery, but of course could only register at one.
  • We added an an extra class at the grade level for which you applied.
  • One of our nearby campuses had an opening,
    and reached out to see if you were interested in attending there.
